Hunger, a crisis with no borders

Hunger affects one in 10 globally* and has devastating impacts. In response to the strain this global hunger and nutrition crisis has on our local communities, Lions around the world serve to improve health and well-being and empower their communities to thrive.

What Are BES Lions Doing About This?

Across the Borough, Barwell & Earl Shilton Lions regularly engage in the collection of food for the Hinckley Food Bank. As a service organisation we are skilled in providing local manpower and we plan each collection carefully.

First we leaflet our chosen roads within the borough. These are posted over the course of an evening by a team of volunteer Lions. By doing this we hope to give as much notice to households as possible. The leaflet contains a range of selected items that we know the Food Bank requires for the immediate future.

Usually, around 3 days later, the team reassembles with vehicles and collects the food parcels/shopping bags that we ask to be left at the front gate of the household. The food is then taken the following morning to the Hinckley Food Bank where we are given a ‘receipt’ for the items based on the overall weight and average shop price per kilogram donated.

For details of the next collections within the Borough please see our ‘Upcoming Events’ section of the front page.
